Cuba will enchant you no matter what time of year you visit. If you want to avoid the hot months, which can be unbearable at times, don’t go from July to September. If you want to avoid the wettest months, don’t go from June to October. Hurricanes and tropical storms can strike from June to November, with intensity and frequency peaking in September and October. The coolest month of the year is February, when night temperatures during periodic and short-lasting cold fronts can dip (very briefly) into the forties. Temperatures during the day, however, hover in the seventies.
The high season for tourism in Cuba runs from December to April, but even so the throngs are generally confined to the major resorts (i.e., Varadero, Cayo Coco) and the popular areas of certain cities (Habana Vieja, Trinidad, Santiago de Cuba). Furthermore, no matter where you go in Cuba, nor what time of the year, the tourist crowds don’t begin to approach the densities in other popular Caribbean tourist destinations. The main issue about the peak tourist season in Cuba is that airfare and hotel prices are twenty to twenty-five percent higher than other times of the year. This is also true for certain national holidays, such as July 25-27, the Celebration of National Rebellion (Cuba’s Forth of July).
